The University Lutheran Church Green Team from Norman collected enough #6 Styrofoam to produce nine logs that day, which will eventually go to a plastics broker, then to a manufacturer. They also collect styrofoam egg cartons to pass on to their "Poultry Partners" and will return to the library on Oct. 10.

Styrofoam, or expanded polystyrene, can take up 30 percent of space in landfills and takes 500 years to decompose, according to the Society of Environmental Journalists website.

Mrs. Jonell (Hairston) Clark, aged 90, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026. She was born on May 4, 1935 in Hondo, TX, to Amos and Nettie (Runnels) Hairston. She was the youngest child in a family of nine children and survived diphtheria at the age of three years old.
