Thinking Out Loud

How can we obtain badly needed rest and sleep when mourning the death of a loved one? The shock of the death sends our bodies into overdrive. Our normal routines are changed. We stay up late, eat little or nothing, and often have to deal with a variety of emotions, especially depression.

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor, My name is Marie Thompson. I started working at Kemp’s Drug Store in February 1975. I started as a Soda Jerk. I served malts, shakes, coke floats, and served sandwiches to the Bristow School kids. Later in the years to come, I served coffee to senior citizens.

Challenges

Samantha loved watching her cats play. They ran with each other, and tackled each other, honing their skills. But Sadie seemed to always be set upon by both Lucy and Tom. Lucy was the “alpha” or oldest of the three. Tom was a male younger than Sadie and he was always pouncing and jumping on Sadie.

What Really Helps?

His uncle really didn’t do Joe any favors. Sure, he secured a very high-paying job for Joe. It paid him over $5K/week. Yes, per week! All Joe had to do was deal heroin for the Mexican Mafia. He didn’t have to kill anyone. There was another crew for that. Eventually, the law caught up to Joe.

Thoughts and Prayers...

Someone recently asked what about using the cliché "Our thoughts and prayers are with you." We say it because it's the right thing to say. Everyone accepts this condolence in good faith, right?

. . . from the Pastor’s Desk In the world we live in, people seem to be so beaten down by the everyday struggles of life. I have very few days when I don’t visit with someone who is burdened down and losing hope. Some seem to be so tired and weary.
