Gloria was a truly wonderful woman, a respected journalist, a trusted friend, and an unwavering supporter of the law enforcement community. Throughout the years, she treated people with kindness, professionalism, and genuine compassion.

John Dmytryk adds styrofoam to the densifier, as Sammy Thompson collects the styrofoam log which the densifier produces, in the Shawnee Pioneer Library parking lot on May 9. The University Lutheran Church Green Team from Norman collected enough #6 Styrofoam to produce nine logs that day, which will eventually go to a plastics broker, then to a manufacturer. They also collect styrofoam egg cartons to pass on to their "Poultry Partners" and will return to the library on Oct. 10.

Styrofoam, or expanded polystyrene, can take up 30 percent of space in landfills and takes 500 years to decompose, according to the Society of Environmental Journalists website.

Seminole State College Softball wins a trip to the JUCO World Series

The Seminole State College Trojan softball team won the NJCAA South Central District title last weekend and earned a trip to the JUCO World Series national tournament. The Trojans defeated NEO in the championship game 3-2 at the CPN FireLake Ball Fields in Shawnee on Saturday.

Gloria Gillenwater Trotter, 81, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away May 18, 2026. A native of Bristol, Tennessee-Virginia, Gloria was born Sept. 3, 1944, to Wilfred Kelso Gillenwater Sr. and Minnie Lou (Davis) Gillenwater.
